Narcissus Alexis Beauty
The name ‘Alexis’ means helper or defender, and this narcissus not only does the job, but it’s also a stunning beauty, hence its name. Golden yellow petals surround an ivory white tea-cup shaped trumpet with hints of pale yellow to orange. The trumpet is just over 3 cm (1”) in length and it expands outward to a deeper golden yellow ruffled rim. Inside the cup, at the heart of the daffodil is a striking greenish yellow eye. Alexis Beauty is sweetly scented and blooms in mid spring. It grows to 45 cm (18”) tall. If you’re planting Alexis Beauty in containers, Hyacinth Dark Dimension and Fritillaria Meleagris, also known as Checkered Lily, would make great companions. Hardy to Zone 3.

Muscari Baby’s Breath
Muscari are pint-sized deer resistant powerhouses, also known as Grape Hyacinths, because their sweetly fragrant flower clusters remind one of a tiny bunch of grapes. They are virtually carefree bulbs once planted in rock gardens, along borders, under trees and shrubs, or in drifts in short grass. It’s easy to naturalize and a profuse bloomer in mid-spring. You can also use Muscari in containers, filling in the spaces between larger bulbs such as tulips. Baby’s Breath has bright lime green buds which open to delicate and soft pale baby blue clusters. Growing just 15 cm (6”) tall, Baby’s Breath pairs well with Narcissus ‘Perfect Lady’ or ‘Queen’s Delight.’ Hardy to Zone 4.
